Freedom through the Spirit of God
2 Corinthians 3 v 6 + 17. “Who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
freedom.”
The reason I quoted the verses is to
emphasise the great blessing of the freedom in the Spirit of God. In the facebook, Deaf Bible groups, some Deaf have, unfortunately, taught and even argued
foolishly that if one refuses to call the name “Yahshua” or “Yehshua” but rather “Jesus Christ”,
will go to hell! Like Paul
of the New Testament, I say “O foolish how quickly you have left the pure
gospel and teach a different gospel to
mislead and confuse” those who desire to honour God.
Indeed, the foolish argument has been happening ever since Paul’s day when a group of misled Jewish Christians tried to judaize the Gentile Christians by insisting that they keep the laws of Moses. Yet the vast majority of the Messianic Jews gladly embrace their fellow Gentile Christians and rejoice together celebrating the holy events like a Sunday worship. They have no objection to the Gentile Christians’
freedom to call their Saviour in their mother languages. Likewise the Jewish
Christians whose mother tongue is
Hebrew can call rightly “Yeshua” as their Messiah. Remember the letter does not give life. It is by pure faith in Christ - not given us by the law of letters or the “flesh”.
(2 Cor. 2 v 6)
The source of the misinformation is
believed to be caused by “The Sacred Names Movement” (you can find it on the website by typing in “Sacred Names
Movement” in the Google) a division of the Seventh Day Advent established in the late 1920s and early 1930s. They taught incorrectly that the New Testament was originally written in Hebrew not in Greek.
It is contrary to the overwhelming
evidence of trustworthy early Greek
copies (numbering over five thousands) of
original kione Greek New
Testament
whilst there
is none of
the original
Hebrew New
Testament.
They teach that
salvation is dependent on how correctly you speak when calling on the Name of God.
The names of God they attempted to pronounce are numerous:
Yah, Yeh, Yahh, Yahweh, Ishueh,
Yahwah, Yaohu, Yahuwah, Yahuah
Jesus is called:
Yeshua, Yehshua, Yahshua, Yahsha,
Yhahshua, Yhwhhoshua!!
CONFUSION! ERROR!
Unfortunately, the correct pronunciation (correct speaking) of the name “YVWH” is lost. The conclusion was reached by the honest people of the division.
The reason, I believe, why God allowed the confusion is that He does not want these words to become word-idolatry.
The Bible tells us of many names we call God:
The LORD
The Alpha and the Omega
My name is Jealous
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life
I am the Door
The Sun of Righteousness
I AM who I AM
Who is and who was and who is to come,
the Almighty
Abba, Father (Daddy)
There are many other names but the space does not permit them. The various names refer to the SAME person. Thus the great blessing of freedom in the Spirit of God!
The name of Jesus Christ in Greek is pronounced as “Iesous Christo” (Ιησούς Χριστός). It was the Holy Spirit that
inspired the Christian writers to write the name of the Saviour. It has nothing to do with the alleged doctoring (spoiling) of the Greek name of the Saviour with the Greek god, Zeus. An interesting confirmation of the authenticity of the Greek name of the Saviour was the archaeological discovery of many clay fragments in the ruins of
Sardis (one of the seven churches in the Revelation) by a French archaeologist. On one fragment was imprinted “Iesous” in Greek.
Apostle Paul rebuked the churches of Galatia of leaving the pure Gospel for the other gospel.
Galatians 1:6, 7 + 8 “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the One (Jesus) who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel - which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert (distort) the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!” The person who preaches a false view, will pay the penalty.
Gal. 5:10 “I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be.” My dear friends please take care not to spread the false message as Paul called it “a foolish and misleading philosophy” (Col. 2 v 8) that salvation is dependent on the correct sounding call of God. We are saved by faith (heart faith) not the letters of the law!
Xhosa Christian calls the name of the
Saviour “uYeshua”.
Afrikaans Christian calls Him “Jesus”
pronouncing the word differently from
English.
French Christian “Jesuu”
Arabian and Turkish Christians “Isa”
Tswana Christian “Jesu”, etc.
In spite of many various words, they refer to the same Saviour. Since we have the freedom through faith and the Spirit of God, it is NOT a sin to call Him “Jesus Christ” in English.
Revelation 5 v 9 reveals God’s great plan to include all the people from every tribe and language and nation that will stand in the Kingdom of God singing praises to Jesus Christ, the King of kings. |
