Cornerstone Church celebrated 20th anniversary on 6th
March 2003. Churches that were planted out from
Cornerstone Church came together to celebrate the
faithfulness and goodness of our great God! The Deaf
people in the photo left, who met for supper, are from
3 different churches, Cornerstone, Breakthru’ and
Fireplace Churches.
Twenty years of history
Twenty years ago two churches joined to
form Cornerstone Fellowship under the leadership of Leon
and Pat van Daele (H) who led the church for 11 years
until their release into Apostolic team.
In 1994
Jim and Margaret Lamont (H), originally from Northern
Ireland, took over the leadership. Under their
leadership the church was renamed “Cornerstone Church”.
In that same year William and Beverley Warmington (D)
with some of the Deaf people integrated into Cornerstone
Church.
After 6
and a half years Jim and Margaret felt the call of God
to be sent out from Cornerstone in a translocal
full-time capacity. They handed the church over to
Marcus and Adele Herbert (H) in September 2000. Out of
Cornerstone Church 15 churches were planted locally and
abroad.
During
those “integration” years many interpreters were
raised - they conveyed God’s messages faithfully
and competently to the Deaf. Over the years some of the
interpreters left to move to other places.
Currently there are the interpreters, Yannick Nel, Mel
Gray, Marian Bakker and Bianca Bouffé (presently
overseas). Linley Marran, Emma Gray, Jason de Roche are
Sign Language learners.
Myles
Sinclair, who had been interpreting for the Deaf people
for many years, felt the Lord leading him and his family
to a new church. They were released in June 2003 with
the blessings of the elders and are excited about the
new opportunities they face.
