The Fireplace Church celebrated her 1st birthday on 13th October 2003. The celebration was held at Colin Mann School, Lambton, Germiston on a very cold and rainy day on 19th October, giving our praises and thanks to our God for His goodness and faithfulness.

Two weeks prior to the celebration was spent in preparation - painting the banners, sewing the flags, making the cross and the other things.

Marcus & Adele Herbert (H), the elders and some people from the Cornerstone Church joined the celebration. There were about 200 people.

Many people in the FPC got involved - 3 home groups (including the Deaf Home Cell), the Youth and the Lamb City (Children Church) in praise and worship, songs, dance, poem-reading, aerobics (Youth), mime and a slide-show.

Kyle (H), 11 year old son of Kathleen Griffin (D) sang in Sign Language with some children and the others waved the flags.

Threedeaf ladies, Kathleen Griffin, Wendy Gouvea and Bev Warmington sang “Blessed be the Name of the Lord” in Sign Language, inviting the congregation to sing and sign along with us.

At the end of the service  Marcus gave a short and encouraging message. After that we all went to the lapa (a big thatched wall-less hut) outside for tea, coffee and cakes with pouring rain outside.

It was a blessed time and enjoyed by all.
