in Umlazi, Kwa-Zulu Natal
28 December 2003 - 2 January 2004

God is so good again. We always give thanks to Him - Jesus loves us. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah!

5th National Deaf Conference, Leadership Camp was held at Umlazi, 35 kms from Durban Kwa-Zulu Natal for 5 days (28th December 2003 - 2nd January 2004). The place, where we stayed, is beautiful with a nice view of Mango- suthu Student Technikon. It is similar to the streets of Soweto, teeming with people, taxi’s and buses. Taxi’s passed 450 m from us to and fro playing loud music but we heard nothing.

About 63 Deafies, 1 kid, 1 interpreter and 18 visitors (totalling 83) attended the camp. Everyone travelled from as far as Botswana, North West, Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape, arrived safely. (Two Zambian Deafies got lost for 5 days but were safe in Durban). It was great to see new brothers and sisters in Christ. We got to know each other and we were like a family. God is so good to us! On the first day we heard that Botswanan Deaf had transport problem so we prayed asking our Lord Jesus to help them find the way. Two days later they arrived with 2 combi’s. Hallelujah! God has answered our prayers!

Thanks to Purity Buthelezi and Kwa-Zulu Natal Kitchen Team for their hard work to prepare delicious food for us.

Pedro Nyalunga (D) and I led two groups and shared God’s Word with them - the topic was “Faithfulness and Love”. Many of them were excited to know who God is? Who Jesus is? Who the Holy Spirit is? We tried to explain by acting and singing songs in Sign Language. Some, who were with us for the first time, copied in writings and songs that they took home. We encouraged them that God can use us to sing songs in Sign Language for Him. Early every morning at 6 am we prayed and worshipped God in groups for His blessings. We helped each other to understand the Word of God.

South African and Botswanan Deafies played friendly matches of netball and soccer for 3 days - Botswana beat South Africa! The day before the New Year two Botswanan combi’s made two trips to take so many of us to the Durban North Beach where we had a good time. Back to the camp, after supper we had three games and joke story - we laughed so much and it was fun. Thanks to Pedro who arranged the fun evening.

On the New Year’s Day we praised, worshipped and greeted each other, giving thanks to God.  Early the next day we were told by the security guard that one of the combi’s was stolen while we slept late. We never lost our faith in God - we pray-walked around and worshipped Him. When the combi was not found, the Insurance took care to provide another combi to take the Deafies back to Botswana 2 days later.

Stanley MalokaWe thank you for your prayers that the Deafies who came, saw what the Lord had done to us and that they now believe that God is so good and His Word is real. Pray for a leader for Kwa-Zulu Natal.

It has been decided that the next camp will be held in North West, 28th Dec. 2004 - 3rd Jan. 2005. Praise the Lord for Victor Mocwane who will organise the camp this year. Pray for him and his team to find the suitable place.  Praise the Lord! God is so good to us!  Hallelujah! Thank you all for your prayers.
