Wesselsbron, Near Welkom

Hennie & Trilby Jordaan (D) of Kempton Park Deaf Fellowship invited us to join them and their church for the ministry weekend (23—25
September 2011) in Wesselsbron, 20 km from Welkom. There were 25 of us including 4 children.

After driving for four hours through very flat Free State we arrived at Armika, a Bushcamp in Private Nature Reserve outside Wesselsbron, owned by the cousin of Jimmy Muller (D) who works there with his wife, Yolandi (HoH) with their 8 year-old daughter and 4 year-old son.

It is a beautiful and bushy place with the chalets by Buffelfontein River. We all had sumptuous stir-fry for dinner. It has wild game, all sorts of buck eg. kudus, elands, springboks, sable antelopes, giraffes (we didn't see them), hippos, rhinos and zebras.

On Saturday morning we took two turns to ride on the open back jeep to look out for the game—we saw 2 hippos with their baby by the dam. We stopped at the enclosure where the tame cheetah roams—so cute and so nice to stroke. It purred loudly. On the way back Yolandi spotted 4 white rhinos in the dense bush, much to our delight. That night after delicious lamb-spit dinner Hennie drilled us all with 3-hour brain–racking questionnaires from the Bible to test our knowledge and it was fun. It was good to know that we do have good knowledge indeed.

On Sunday morning after Nikkie Nortjee (D) and I took turns worshipping in English and Afrikaans, William gave the message "Can we trust the Bible?" which blessed the Deafies. After lovely lunch of cottage pie and salads we all departed for home, truly blessed! A BIG thanks to Yolandi who cooked delicious meals enough to feed an army!

Two days later we received a shocking news of Jimmy (35) who died suddenly of heart attack. But we rejoice to know that we all had spent a good quality time with Jimmy & Yolandi before he passed on to be with our Lord for eternity.

We want to thank Hennie & Trilby for inviting us. It's really wonderful to cross the borders to another language and culture.
