Our Holiday

On 24 August 2011 we left Gauteng by car for Northern Cape to see the famous Namaqualand flowers. From Pofadder to Springbok the flowers, bright orange, yellow, purple and white, started to be displayed everywhere even on the mountains -too beautiful to behold - all the way along the West Coast to Worcester in Western Cape, even along the Southern Cape to Eastern Cape. The flowers started to thin out when we entered Free State on the way home.

We arrived at De la Bat School for the Deaf in Worcester on 26 August to attend DEF (Deaf Ecumenical Forum) for the weekend where all the deaf pastors, leaders, hearing workers in the deaf ministry came. We all shared to sleep in the boys and girls dormitories and had lovely meals there, cooked by the hostel mothers. Shirley Visser (HoH) of Cape Town led beautiful worship throughout the weekend. Ps. Dirk Venter (CODA) of Pretoria and William Warmington (D) of Germiston gave messages on "Crossing border as Church to the World".

Dirk and HarryThe highlight of the weekend on Saturday morning after William's message, was when Ps. Dirk introduced Imam Harry Mousa Adams (H) of Ghana, West Africa, who shared his testimony of his conversion from Islam to Christianity. WOW! God is amazing! After tea he shared with us how to witness to the Moslems.

After lunch a bus took us to Graham Beck Wine farm where a man, a manager, whose daughter is at Ou Muele After Care at De la Bat School, showed us around—very interesting. There we stayed for a lekker braai (delicious barbeque) and sumptuous salads.

Donald, Dudley and WilliamOn Sunday morning Ps. Anthony Salie (HoH) preached the same topic. Many Deafies from De la Bat School joined us. After the morning service we all departed for home. A blessed weekend!

We continued our holiday along the Southern Cape to Dana Bay to stay for 2 days with Donald & Thelma Cumming (D). A big surprise awaited William on our arrival at their home—his friend whom he hadn't seenfor 55 years—Dudley Brickhill (D). Donald, Dudley and William went to De la Bat School for Deaf in Worcester together. William left that school to attend St. Vincent School for the Deaf in Melrose, Johannesburg when he was 11 years old as his family home in Ficksburg, Free State, is closer to Gauteng than to Western Cape. God is so good as William saw Mervyn Meier (D) in Welkom last March and Dudley Brickhill in Dana Bay, both this year. PTL! William hasn't seen them both for 55 years! Dudley & his wife, Joey from Centurion, Gauteng, were spending their holidays with Donald & Thelma. We had a very good time fellowshipping together.

Then we drove to George where we went by power-van up the mountain with school-childrenand their 2 teachers, through 6 tunnels. Before the seventh tunnel the power-van broke down up on the mountain, we waited there for 3 hours in the hot weather before the mechanics came to replace the coil. The Outeniqua Pass (tar road) was closed due to the rock fall so the Montague Pass on the gravel road had to be used hence the long wait as the mechanics had to use the Montague Pass. With the power-van fixed, we came slowly down—wow such a spectucalar viewof George below! We then proceeded to my mother's Retirement Village in Plettenberg Bay. We stayed in a guest room in the Village for 6 days—a good quality time with my 83 year old mother who looks well. Then we went to Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape and spent overnight with Aubrey & Laraine Schwikkard (D) - another good time of fellowshipping before proceeding to home sweet home via Gariep Dam, on 7 September.
